What is a computer Virus?
A computer virus is a mini program that does not act the way you intend, or causes harm to your computer and or data files. Although 'virus' is the generally accepted term for all code harming your computer experience it is actually one specific type of harmful program. Other types include: trojans, worms, bloodhounds, and more. In general, most people and even companies do not distinguish them separately but refer to them all as 'viruses'.

How do you get a virus?
The absolute most common way to get a virus is from downloading files onto your computer directly from another person. Using P2P file sharing programs to download music, pictures, games, or other files is extremely dangerous when you do not know the person from whom you are downloading. Other ways to get a virus include: opening email attachments; viewing some web pages; opening CDs, DVDs, or any other storage device from someone else; or even by simply being connected to the internet at all. That is why it is extremely important to ALWAYS have an active and up to date anti-virus program running on your computer.

What is spyware?
Spyware is similar to a virus, it is a piece of software that is not wanted. A virus might cause harm to your data, spyware might keep track of the web pages you visit, what type of searches you do, and your habits in order to cause targeted pop-up advertisements to appear on your computer. Spyware might also keep track of your personal information or do countless other unwanted things. Spyware can be though of as more passive than a virus. It is extremely easy to get spyware without noticing, and it is very common to have up to 200 spyware programs running at the same time. This causes slowness and unwanted effects on your computer. You may often hear anti-phishing, or identity theft prevention on tv or in the news and they are usually referring to anti-spyware. Keep in mind that the news media love flash words and are often misleading you.

I have a wireless B router, will a wireless G router make my internet faster?
No, a wireless G router will not improve the speed of your internet. Wireless B connections run at about 12 Mbps, where as the fastest internet connection coming into your home may be around 3-4 Mbps. As you can see, the internet connection coming to your house is already much slower than the communication speed between yourself and your router. The only reason to upgrade to a wireless G router is if you are currently running out of bandwidth transferring files from one computer in your home or office, to another computer in your home or office. The speed increase will never leave your own building.
